Job summary

Buttcon Limited is seeking an Assistant Site Superintendent to support the Site Superintendent in managing all on-site activities for construction projects in Ottawa, Ontario. You will collaborate with stakeholders, supervise subcontractors, and promote safety compliance to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Reporting to the Field Manager, you will help organize daily activities, review blueprints, manage resources, and participate in safety meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Site Superintendent in planning, organizing, and coordinating daily construction activities.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, organizing, and control of construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
  • Collaborate with the project team to understand project goals, specifications, and timeline requirements; review plans.
  • Ensure on-site safety programs, safety signage, and accessibility of medical facilities.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, workers, and vendors to ensure adherence to plans and quality standards.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Schedule and allocate resources such as equipment, materials, and manpower per project needs.
  • Organize pre-construction meetings with each trade and ensure all contract documents are understood.
  • Ensure trades complete their scope and understand subcontract requirements.
  • Conduct safety and coordination meetings and distribute minutes.
  • Perform regular inspections for quality and compliance with specs.
  • Monitor modular installation activities and ensure alignment and finish quality.
  • Identify deviations from plans and resolve issues with stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in job reports.

About the Role

Reporting to the Field Manager, the Assistant Site Superintendent plays a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of construction project assisting the Site Superintendent in managing all on site activities. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, supervising subcontractors and workers, ensuring safety compliance and contributing to project timelines. The Assistant Site Superintendent will assist in maintaining a safe and productive work environment while promoting teamwork and effective communication.

Responsibility
  • Assist the Site Superintendent in planning organizing and coordinating daily construction activities.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, organizing, and control of construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.

  • Be responsible for on-site safety programs, WSIB poster, M.O.L. office phone number, and location of the nearest hospital.
  • Ensure the site office has proper first aid and eye wash station.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors, workers, and vendors to ensure adherence to project plans and quality standards.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols, ensuring a safe work environment for all on-site personnel.
  • Assistance scheduling and allocating resources such as equipment, materials, and manpower as per project needs.
  • Organize pre-construction meetings with each trade to ensure they have all contract documents and are familiar with all the requirements.
  • Ensure all trades complete their scope of work to an acceptable standard and have a clear understanding of their subcontract requirements and scope of work while onsite.
  • Conduct safety and coordination meetings and prepare and distribute the meeting minutes.
  • Conduct regular inspections to verify work quality, compliance with specifications, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Monitor construction and modular installation activities to ensure alignment, fit-up, finishes, and workmanship meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify and address any deviations from project plans promptly, collaborating with relevant parties to resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and other relevant documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of job reports.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving project related challenges, proposing solutions to mitigate potential delays or obstacles.
  • Collaborate with the site superintendent and project team to troubleshoot and find innovative solutions.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety on site, adhering to all relevant safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency response drills as required.
  • Participate in hazard assessments and investigations onsite.
Skills And Attributes

  • A demonstrated track record of progressive growth through roles such as Tradesperson, Lead Hand, and Site Foreperson would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of construction process, techniques, and terminology.
  • Previous experience overseeing modular construction projects, including installation, sequencing, and coordination of modular components on site is an asset.
  • In depth, understanding, knowledge and implementation of the Ontario occupational health and safety act as it relates to each project.
  • Gold Seal Certified an asset.
  • LEED Accredited an asset.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Condition and Environment
  • The position requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and all seasons.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and lift heavy objects as needed.
  • Physical dexterity for operating tools and equipment is essential.
  • Primary work location on project sites.

The hiring range for this role is $90,000 - $105,000.The final compensation offered will be determined considering the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and location. Annual bonus opportunities are in addition to base salary.
