Job summary

Transco Rail Services, part of Marmon Holdings, is seeking an Assistant Site Manager in Guernsey, SK. You will oversee daily shop operations, schedule repair jobs, and lead a team including laborers, carmen, welders, and administrative staff.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of leadership/management experience in shop or operations.
  • Welding experience is advantageous and related rail repair knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality assurance, and adhering to standards (AAR/M1002/M1003).
  • Proficiency with standard software and ability to manage shop administration.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Site Manager at our Guernsey, SK location. Under the direction of Site Manager, the Assistant Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shop, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction, and maintaining efficient and high-quality service delivery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily shop operations, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of repair jobs. Implement and uphold operational procedures and policies to boost shop efficiency and productivity. Manage repair job scheduling to optimize resource use and minimize downtime.
  • Customer Service: Maintain high customer service standards by addressing inquiries and resolving complaints swiftly. Build and sustain strong customer relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise shop staff, including laborers, carmen, welders, and administrative personnel. Support the On‑Site Manager in conducting performance reviews and provide coaching and development opportunities. Promote a positive work environment to enhance employee morale and retention.
  • Financial Management: Monitor and manage the shop’s budget, ensuring financial targets are met and expenses are controlled. Prepare and analyze financial reports, including revenue, expenses, and profitability metrics. Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and profitability, including managing inventory costs.
  • Quality and Safety: Ensure all repair work meets AAR and industry standards, as well as customer and shop quality benchmarks. Conduct regular quality control inspections to identify and address issues or areas for improvement. Enforce safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for staff and customers.
  • Inventory and Equipment Management: Oversee the procurement, storage, and inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels. Manage the maintenance and repair of shop equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Implement inventory management strategies to reduce waste and optimize turnover.
  • Technology and Innovation: Stay informed about the latest industry technologies and repair techniques. Utilize shop management software to enhance scheduling, billing, and customer communication. Promote the adoption of new tools and technologies to improve service delivery and efficiency.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Develop and enforce environmentally friendly practices, including recycling and proper disposal of hazardous materials. Advocate for energy‑efficient and sustainable practices within the shop. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
SKILLS / SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Welding Experience: Familiarity with welding techniques is advantageous.
  • Leadership and Management: 2‑3 years of experience in leading teams and managing business operations.
  • Process and Quality Management: Experience in process management, quality assurance, and rail repair is a plus.
  • Safety Record: Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a strong safety record.
  • Working Conditions: Knowledge of working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with AAR rules and M1002/M1003 standards is beneficial.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers, particularly Office 365.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adherence to health and safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Customer Service: Strong skills in customer service with a keen focus on detail and quality.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Pressure Management: Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and team‑building capabilities.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel and stay overnight as needed.
  • Growth Orientation: Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on expanding the customer base and identifying growth opportunities.
