Position
Reporting to the Roadmaster, the Assistant Roadmaster is responsible for ensuring that the track is in safe condition for train passage and managing the daily supervision of the MOW workforce.
Responsibilities
- Ensure track safety for train operations.
- Perform inspections (switches, track, roadways, drainage, special inspections like flood or earthquake), identify and inventory gaps, prioritize repairs, and address urgent defects.
- Conduct efficiency and operational tests.
- Supervise the MOW workforce daily.
- Coordinate and monitor operations, establish and communicate project goals and priorities, distribute workload, and promote smooth operations.
- Inspect mainlines, sidings, and industrial tracks according to Operating Railway Specifications.
- Communicate plans and tasks to involved work units.
- Handle administrative tasks, reports, and workforce planning with rigor.
- Ensure employee safety, report accidents, uphold safety policies, and prevent negligence.
- Ensure compliance with rules, regulations, standards, and policies, participate in safety committees, audits, and training.
- Support engineering activities during derailments and natural disasters.
- Create reports for management, maintain records, and perform other administrative tasks.
- Perform related tasks as required.
General Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Over 5 years of railway experience in an MOW department.
- Experience performing track inspections.
- Flexible working hours to oversee teams and clients.
- Bilingual skills are an asset.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- Adaptability to changing environments.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in MS Office, databases, and email communication.
