Position:
Reporting to the Roadmaster, the Assistant Roadmaster is responsible for ensuring that the track is in safe conditions for the passage of trains and for managing the day-to-day supervision of a MOW workforce.

Responsibilities:

The selected individual will perform the following tasks:

  • Ensure track is in safe condition for the passage of trains.
  • Perform inspections (Switch, track, roadways, drainage, special inspection (flood, earthquake), identify and inventory gaps from specifications, prioritize repairs, ensure urgent defects are corrected).
  • Conduct efficiency and operational tests.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the MOW workforce.
  • Coordinate and monitor operations (establish and communicate project specific goals and priorities, distribute workload amongst project participants, coordinate project objectives with conflicting activities, promote smooth operations, participate in service disruption resumption).
  • Inspect mainlines, sidings and industrial tracks in accordance with Operating Railway Specifications.
  • Communicate with employees of other work units involved in the objectives, the different action plans and the tasks to be accomplished.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, reports and manage workforce planning.
  • Ensure the safety of employees and that accidents are reported, safety policies are respected, and there is no negligence towards the operation rules.
  • Ensure compliance with Rules, Regulations, Standards, Norms, Policies and Guidelines (Participate in H&S Committee, job briefings, Audits, track employee training and qualifications).
  • Support engineering activities at major derailments and natural disasters.
  • Create various reports for company management.
  • Keep records and files, submit reports, communicate and perform other administrative tasks.
  • All other related tasks.

General Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • More than 5 years of Railway experience in a MOW department.
  • Experience performing track inspections.
  • Flexible with regards to working hours to meet with teams and clients.
  • Bilingual (asset).
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Possess great flexibility to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Prepared to occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in MS OFFICE, databases and emails.
