The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is responsible for supporting SCM - Operations in the execution of assigned Project(s). The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in managing Seaspan Shipyards and external resources achieve the Project success criteria, to the required cost, schedule and quality requirements.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver
What you'll do
- Provides project management support in the coordination and execution of assigned activities and deliverables.
- Works closely with cross-discipline shipyard teams including, but not limited to, estimating, commercial, planning and project controls, engineering, supply chain and operations to ensure the Project is successful.
- Develops or assists in the generation of plans, schedules, dashboards, reports, and presentations. that highlight Project status against established goals and plans.
- Monitors and helps collate project controls and key performance metrics to measure project performance.
- On site validation of issues raised by different stakeholders (internal and external) and working with them toward delivering a solution.
- Tracks actions and commitments identified during Project meetings.
- Establishes ambitious but achievable timelines and works closely with action owners to complete open commitments.
- Champions and fosters a culture Project success over individual success.
- Follow up of Industrial subs production progress and lookaheads on site.
What you'll bring
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is desired. Diplomas may be accepted with sufficient employment experience.
- Certified project management qualification a distinct advantage (e.g. PMP).
- Demonstrated experience managing sophisticated projects, bids or proposals.
- 5-7 years professional experience in heavy industry such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience and contribution, in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities a distinct advantage.
- Good judgment and prioritization abilities.
- Effective, efficient interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to empower and empathize with team members.
- Ability to influence others and manage expectations.
- Familiar with Government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.
- Experienced with Earned Value Management.
- Willingness to work in an office-setting, as well as within the Shipyard.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of Navis Simulation, Power BI would be considered as an asset.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
