In the role of Assistant Project Manager, you'll be responsible for:
  • Reporting to the Canada Rail Lead, providing engineering, technical, and management support to the Rail Group.
  • Assisting with proposals, design packages, and tender documentation.
  • Applying project management principles to successfully manage multiple projects and clients.
  • Overseeing the preparation of detailed design drawings for rail and civil projects, ensuring they meet client and HDR quality standards.
  • Preparing and reviewing computer 3D and 2D models, plans, cross sections, quantities, and other deliverables.
  • Providing quality control on design and construction projects.
  • Supervising project teams, ensuring work quality and compliance with regulations, laws, and standards.
  • Providing technical support during construction and coordinating work supervision.
  • Participating in planning, design, and construction phases of projects.
  • Preparing reports on project execution and monitoring schedules.
  • Contributing to cost estimates and payment recommendations.
  • Assisting in preparing technical specifications and bid analyses.
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance on construction sites.
  • Performing detailed technical analyses, interpreting data, and drafting reports.
  • Visiting construction sites to ensure quality and conduct inspections.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of transportation/rail and civil experience.
  • Experience coordinating projects.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and cost control.
  • Excellent communication skills; willing to engage in planning, design, and construction activities.
  • Team-oriented with leadership abilities in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance.
  • Experience with project financial reporting, spreadsheets, report writing, and basic occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D and CADD.
  • Willingness to travel and visit sites periodically.
  • Experience with construction management and field inspections.
  • Understanding of Canadian Class 1 railway standards and AREMA standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
