EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Department of Psychology in the School of Science and Technology at Cape Breton University (CBU) invites applications for a 12-Month Limited Term Position in Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor (or Lecturer depending on qualifications) in the area of behavioural neuroscience. This position will commence July 1, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and will conclude on June 30, 2026.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses that fit departmental needs over the fall and winter semesters. The ability to teach upper-level courses in the areas of behavioural neuroscience and learning is a requirement. The ability to teach in additional areas including neurobiology, drugs and behaviour, environmental psychology, and introductory psychology would provide additional assets to fit our needs. Course loading would consist of 3 courses in the fall semester and 3 courses in the winter semester.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate potential and commitment to teaching. A statement on how the candidate’s research background has or has the potential to enhance their success in teaching the key courses above is also expected. The successful candidate is expected to undertake appropriate service activities within the university community.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a relevant PhD in psychology with a specialization in behavioural neuroscience. Candidates with a relevant Master’s degree who have completed all of the requirements for a relevant PhD but are currently completing their dissertation may be considered for the rank of Lecturer. The successful candidate is expected to deliver the courses on campus (in-person) in both the fall and winter semesters.

  • statement of teaching philosophy
  • evidence of effective teaching
  • statement of research accomplishments and how they relate to teaching
  • statement of how they incorporate equity, diversity and inclusiveness in their work and services
  • complete CV including a list of publications
  • list of at least three references.
    • Short-listed candidates will be required to submit three reference letters.
