Job description

Trent University invites applications for two Limited-Term Appointments (LTAs) at the rank of Assistant Professor at the Trent / Fleming School of Nursing. Subject to budgetary approval, the positions could commence as early as August 15, 2025, and will be located at the beautiful Symons campus, set on the banks of the Otonabee River in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Trent University is one of the top-ranked primarily undergraduate universities in Ontario, with a record of excellence in both teaching and research. The TFSON is distinguished by its transformative education and offers a collaborative and compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. The TFSON also has a Master of Science in Nursing and two Graduate Diplomas – one in Mental Health and Addictions Nursing and the other in Dementia. We are particularly interested in nurses who have the requisite knowledge and expertise to teach in two or more of the following areas : Nursing as a profession, nursing leadership, life sciences, pharmacology, pathophysiology, health promotion and population health, and family nursing. We are seeking exceptional candidates who can effectively translate their knowledge to nursing students in ways that ground and inspire new nurses to provide exceptional nursing care. Experience in providing clinical student supervision will also be considered an asset. LTA faculty may be expected to teach a portion of their course load in the summer. As with other faculty positions, the successful candidate will contribute to the service needs of the School, University, community, and profession, as appropriate. The current salary grid can be found in the collective agreement with the Trent University Faculty Association.

Qualifications :

  • Candidates must have a completed graduate degree in nursing.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with a PhD (completed or in progress) in nursing or a related discipline.
  • Candidates for these positions must be Registered Nurses, either in the General or Extended Class, who are eligible to practice without restrictions as recognized by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Capacity for teaching excellence as evidenced by a teaching dossier, which typically includes a teaching philosophy statement.
