An established institution is seeking a dedicated Assistant Professor in Music Education to join its vibrant School for the Arts. Applications are invited for a tenure track position in Music Education at the rank of Assistant Professor with the School for the Arts within the College of Arts & Science at the University of Saskatchewan with a projected start date of July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Elementary Music Education and related subjects. The successful candidate will also potentially teach in additional area(s) commensurate with their qualifications and expertise such as (1) leading music ensembles, (2) applied teaching, (3) Indigenous music, (4) ethnomusicology and/or global/world music. The position includes opportunities for graduate supervision and the development of new undergraduate and/or graduate level courses. The successful candidate will actively participate in ongoing research scholarly and artistic work (RSAW), provide leadership in Elementary Music Education, participate actively in recruitment, and undertake administrative activities and responsibilities corresponding to rank. The University of Saskatchewan’s main campus is situated on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. The University of Saskatchewan is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a city with a diverse and thriving economic base, a vibrant arts community and a full range of leisure opportunities. The University has a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and scholarly activities and offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to a student population of over 27,000. The Department of Music/School for the Arts currently resides in the College of Arts & Science which offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 300 faculty, including 9 Canada Research Chairs. The department is playing a key role in the formation of the School for the Arts and will join that School on July 1, 2024. As part of the new School, the music area has a full-time faculty complement of nine (including the David L Kaplan Chair in Music), as well as twenty sessional instructors. Music programs include a B.Mus. (Performance, Individualized, and Music Education streams), graduate degrees in music education, musicology, music theory, and performance (includes conducting), a Jazz Certificate, a Music and Wellbeing Certificate, and, a B.A. (Major in Music). The Department of Music’s well established record of strong leadership in music education, performance, internationally recognized music scholarship, and ongoing outreach and engagement will continue as the School for the Arts develops Qualifications: Candidates will be considered who hold a Doctorate (DMA or Ph.D.) in Music Education or a related music field. ABD will be considered with expected completion prior to employment start date. School-based teaching experience is required. Post-secondary teaching experience will be considered an asset. The salary band for the 2023-2024 academic year is: Assistant Professor $99,945-$120,099.
