A leading Canadian university located in Winnipeg is seeking two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors in Computer Engineering. Job description
Overview

Assistant Professor, Computer Engineering. Two full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Price Faculty of Engineering, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Possible specializations include Embedded Systems, Computer Systems and Hardware, and at least one position requires complementary expertise in electronics/sensors. The successful applicant should be able to take up the position by July 1, 2026. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify aspects of their identity that position them to bring currently under-represented viewpoints, expertise and forms of excellence to this role.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Contribute to teaching at the undergraduate level in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with responsibility for teaching core courses and contributing to the capstone design experiences within the programs.
  • Develop and supervise a graduate program, supervise Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and engage in high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Develop an impactful externally funded research program in one or more of the following sub-fields: Embedded Systems or Computer Systems and Hardware, and associated sensors/electronics.
  • Engage in professional service and outreach within the profession and the wider community.
  • Advance principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) and uphold academic integrity.

Other duties may be assigned as appropriate to the ongoing needs of the department and faculty.

Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in a field relevant to Embedded Systems, Computer Systems and Hardware, and/or electronics/sensors.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
  • Demonstrated record of research success and potential for developing an externally funded program with an inclusive and equity-based environment for supervising a diverse graduate student cohort.
  • Ability or potential for high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to engage with a diverse audience.
  • Willingness and ability to teach undergraduate courses within ECE and to contribute to graduate courses and supervision in the Department.

The search committee will particularly value proposals showing plans for fundamental work eligible for funding from major Canadian agencies (e.g., NSERC) and demonstrated expertise in the specified sub-fields. The department hosts approximately 200 graduate students and a diverse community with strong industry connections.

Qualifications (Graduate Education and Community)
  • Supervise graduate students and teach graduate courses in a department with a large and diverse research community.
  • Contribute to a vibrant undergraduate program with interdisciplinary projects and industry collaborations, supported by Co-operative Education / Industry Internship opportunities.
