Your Role

We're looking for Assistant Preconstruction Managers to join our Construction Solutions team. In this role, you will analyze design and constructability options to help optimize your client's projects. You will bring hands-on experience in design, cost estimating, and construction to provide real-time feedback throughout the planning, design, and construction phases, aiming to minimize risks and maximize opportunities.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide preconstruction leadership to deliver value-based design and constructability options for projects across Canada.
  2. Lead and manage preconstruction activities using IPD, design-build, construction management, or stipulated price delivery methodologies.
  3. Engage in design meetings with owners, architects, and engineers to provide recommendations that optimize cost, schedule, quality, and constructability.
  4. Review and comment on drawings (2D and 3D) and specifications, offering recommendations for constructability, value engineering, and sequencing.
  5. Develop Construction Management Plans (CMP) to support permitting, considering logistics, site conditions, utilities, traffic impacts, safety, and neighboring properties.
  6. Lead design-assist teams to investigate renovations and upgrades, establishing efficient, minimally disruptive sequences within occupied facilities.
  7. Support owners and developers with trade package development, procurement, platform implementation, and procedures development.
  8. Assist industrial clients with equipment integration into existing buildings, including feasibility studies, preliminary design, and cost estimates.
  9. Develop procurement procedures for goods, services, and works for publicly funded projects.
  10. Conduct site visits during preconstruction and construction to assess conditions and prepare documentation.
  11. Participate in business development and proposal efforts to grow our client base and service offerings.
  12. Maintain financial control of projects to ensure activities stay within budget.
  13. Prepare project plans and schedules, ensuring compliance with our Quality Management System (QMS).
  14. Assist in training and mentoring staff, providing leadership across projects.
  15. Utilize tools such as RSMeans Online, Procore, CMBuilder, SketchUp, HoloBuilder, Drones, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and others for deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with construction industry experience.
  • Assistant Preconstruction Manager: 2-4 years of experience in design, estimating, or construction.
  • Preconstruction Manager: 4-8 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineering qualifications preferred.
  • PMP qualifications preferred or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and permits.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and details.
  • Deep knowledge of trades relevant to commercial construction.
  • Familiarity with government regulations and project management tools like Microsoft Project.

We recognize that not every candidate will meet all qualifications. At Colliers Project Leaders, we value diversity, inclusion, and authenticity. If you're excited about this role but lack some qualifications, we encourage you to apply. You might be the right fit for this or other roles.
