Your Role

We're looking for Assistant Preconstruction Managers to join our Construction Solutions team. In this role, you will analyze design and constructability options to optimize client projects. You will leverage your hands-on experience in design, cost estimating, and construction to provide real-time feedback during planning, design, and construction phases, aiming to minimize risks and maximize opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide preconstruction leadership to deliver value-based design and constructability options for projects across Canada.
  • Lead and manage preconstruction activities using methodologies like IPD, design-build, construction management, or stipulated price delivery.
  • Engage in design meetings with owners, architects, and engineers to provide recommendations that optimize cost, schedule, quality, and constructability.
  • Review drawings (2D and 3D) and specifications, providing recommendations for constructability, value engineering, and sequencing.
  • Develop Construction Management Plans (CMP) supporting permitting, considering logistics, site conditions, utilities, traffic, health & safety, and impacts on neighboring properties.
  • Lead design-assist teams of trade contractors and consultants for renovations and equipment upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption within occupied facilities.
  • Support owners and developers with trade package development, procurement, construction management platforms (e.g., Procore), and procedures.
  • Assist industrial clients with equipment integration into existing buildings, including feasibility studies, preliminary design, and cost estimation.
  • Develop procurement procedures for projects, especially for publicly funded work.
  • Conduct site visits during preconstruction and construction phases to assess conditions and prepare documentation.
  • Participate in business development and proposal efforts to grow the firm’s client base and service offerings.
  • Manage project budgets and ensure activities meet financial controls.
  • Prepare project plans and schedules, maintaining compliance with quality standards.
  • Mentor staff and provide leadership across projects.
  • Utilize tools like RSMeans Online, Procore, CMBuilder, SketchUp, HoloBuilder, Drones, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and others for deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with construction industry experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience for Assistant Preconstruction Manager role; 4-8 years for Preconstruction Manager.
  • Professional Engineering qualifications preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and permits.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and design details.
  • Understanding of trades relevant to commercial construction.
  • Familiarity with government construction regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and project management tools like Microsoft Project.

We encourage candidates who may not meet every qualification to apply, as we value diversity and inclusion. If you’re excited about this role but lack some qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.
