Job description

Position Summary

Northern Health is seeking an experienced, efficient, and self-directed Assistant to support the Medical Affairs department.

The Assistant, Planning & Administration – UHNBC Medical Affairs, is responsible for planning and providing administrative support to UHNBC Medical Staff Department Heads, members, and committees. The role involves serving as a liaison among Medical Staff, Medical Affairs, Hospital Administration, the Northern Medical Program, and other departments to integrate and implement departmental health service delivery plans within a regional teaching hospital. The incumbent uses basic project management skills to complete departmental projects or to present issues to Medical Affairs for follow-up and resolution.

Starting salary ranges from approximately $57,347 to $71,684, based on education, training, experience, and comparable positions.

UHNBC is the largest acute care facility in Northern BC and a hub for specialized health services, including:

  • Undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program (UBC & UNBC)
  • Hosting residents in UBC’s Family Practice Residency Program
  • Serving as a clinical education site for nursing and health sciences students from UNBC, College of New Caledonia, BCIT, and others.

Since 2001, UHNBC has benefited from nearly $100 million in expansions and upgrades, including:

  • An expanded emergency room and ICU
  • A state-of-the-art maternal-child care centre (including a neonatal ICU)

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus completion of an administrative/business diploma or certificate
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a senior administrative role, preferably with Medical Staff/Medical Affairs experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training
  • Experience in minute-taking at an executive level
  • Project Management education and experience are assets
