Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Pastor at Crestwood Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We are a thriving and growing congregation of about 240 people. Our Senior Pastor, Jeff Kerr, is a Covenant Seminary grad (MDiv '10). Our Assistant Pastor would take on leadership of our youth group, which presently comprises about 15 youth of middle school and high school age. The Assistant Pastor would also gain experience in various other pastoral responsibilities, including regular preaching, leading liturgy in worship, teaching, and administration of the sacraments.

Youth Group

Plan and lead youth group (Gr. 7-12) gatherings three times each month during the school year

Build and train a team of volunteers for youth ministry from the congregation

Plan, oversee, and lead an annual youth retreat

Reach out to youth of the church not actively engaged in youth programs

Plan and oversee youth involvement in local mercy and outreach ministries

Meet with youth for individual discipleship, counselling (as needed), and prayer

Worship

Prepare and preach sermons, on average, three times each month

(once in morning worship and once or twice in evening worship)

Lead the liturgy in Sunday morning worship once a month

Lead the liturgy in Sunday evening worship once a month

Offer congregational prayer in morning worship on occasion

Administer the Lord’s Supper once each month (when ordained)

As needed, assist with baptisms, weddings, funerals (when ordained)

Other Responsibilities

Meet weekly with pastor for planning and prayer

Attend monthly Session meetings

Attend Presbytery meetings

Attend General Assembly at least once every three years

Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor or Session

Take care of own spiritual well-being: preach the Gospel to self; stay in the Word; be regular in confession, repentance, forgiveness, and prayer; take a weekly day of rest and use vacation time; care for own family well.

Requirements

A personal commitment to Jesus Christ, trusting him as he is offered in the Gospel

A life characterised by love, repentance, forgiveness, and patience

A desire to see young people know and trust the Lord Jesus

A desire to disciple young people in their faith

Some experience in youth ministries preferred

Ordained or eligible for ordination in the Presbyterian Church in America
