Description

The News Forum is seeking an Assistant News Editor / Senior Writer to assist with writing, editing, and delivering the Forum Daily news broadcast. Role and Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the Anchor / Chief Editor and CCO in a support role managing and writing content for the daily newscast from trending stories, newswire content, and interviews to help create the final script to broadcast standards.
  • Write copy to correspond with the visual content for complete inserts.
  • Guest chasing for interviews as instructed.
  • 2 x per week Segment package – 3 or 5 minutes – fully written, on-screen and / or VO, delivered with b-roll, clips (links or footage) and interviews (recorded and includes a paper edit for the editor). Target : 1 US Report & 1 Domestic Report per week (this can be fluid based on the news cycle.)
  • Fill in as on-screen talent as needed / on repeating basis.
  • Contribute to the Forum Daily News story document with News Anchor each morning. Report to News Anchor with 1st drafts for 3-5 stories, including prospective guests and links to BROLL / clips.
  • Transferring the final script from google doc to Rundown Creator.
  • Timing the broadcast script on Rundown Creator, editing stories and throws in Rundown Creator prior to and during production when necessary.
  • Tracking stories as they develop and providing input in the daily flow of news decisions.
  • Participate in daily news meetings with News team.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Journalism, Political Science, or related field
  • Experience working in a newsroom (print, television, or radio)
  • Experience in organizing a newscast
  • Ability to establish and manage deadlines
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite – specifically Adobe Premiere
  • Experience using Rundown Creator an asset
  • Experience being on set an asset
  • Able to work independently and complete deadlines in accordance with expectations.
  • Demonstrate interest and awareness of news cycle and current events.
