Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Service Operations, the Assistant Manager is responsible for the overall general management, scheduling, and supervision of all custodial activities and building maintenance. This includes planning, providing managerial support for maintenance workers, and overseeing activities at other district offices.
The role also includes oversight of building security and emergency response and liaising with weekend user groups and/or contractors.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily direction, and supervision to the caretakers across multiple school sites within a designated zone.
- Coordinate and manage scheduling of custodial staff to ensure effective coverage and service delivery.
- Oversee custodial services, ensuring compliance with safety standards, cleanliness, and maintenance protocols.
- Provide planning and managerial support to maintenance workers and district offices, ensuring timely completion of work orders and projects.
- Supervise building security and support emergency response efforts as needed.
- Liaise with weekend user groups and contractors to coordinate facility access, use, and service delivery.
- Respond to after-hours emergency callouts on weekdays and weekends, as required.
- Ensure appropriate use of industrial cleaning supplies, tools, and protective equipment across all custodial teams.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and progressive work environment for custodial staff.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Service Operations to implement operational improvements and support district-wide custodial goals.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- A certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, with two years of field experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Building Service Worker (BSW) Certificate.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industrial cleaning supplies, tools, and protective equipment is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proficiency in related computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of CAD is desirable or the aptitude to learn.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and build trust with a variety of partners.
- Commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.
- Acts with accountability, responsibility and transparency in the use of public funds
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and maintain a calm, courteous approach to sensitive interpersonal situations.
- Ability to work under pressure in a high volume work environment and manage competing priorities and demands.

The salary range for this position is $90,291 to $112,864 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.
Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
