Job summary

A leading transportation service provider in Alberta is seeking an Electrical Engineer to manage and maintain the Power Supply and Electrical Services System. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in power distribution and electrical services, preferably in a rail transportation environment. Responsibilities include developing maintenance programs, liaising with external agencies, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the Power and Electrical Services System so as to ensure that the safety, reliability and availability of such services meet all regulatory requirements for MRT operation.
  • Ensure that all equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Plan and implement a cost effective and comprehensive maintenance program.
  • Achieve Operational goals for Power Supply availability and reliability.
  • Develop and regularly revise Work Instructions in accordance with approved documented procedures, regulations, manufacturer recommendations, industry best practices and other relevant standards.
  • Participate in handling complex investigative tasks, identifying root causes and managing comprehensive repair works.
  • Responsible for the management of non-executive staff including participation in the selection process, handling disciplinary actions, conducting performance review, as well as involvement in staff training and development.
  • Liaise with external agencies on all matters pertaining to the Power Supply system and its equipment.
  • Prepare, evaluate and oversee maintenance contracts inclusive of certifying outsourced maintenance contractor’s work, invoices, purchase order and variation order.
  • Procure all necessary tools, spares and services pertaining to the system operation, including conducting obsolescence studies and implementing followup plans.
  • Ensure safe work conditions and access for Main line and Depot maintenance activities.
  • Participate in testing and commissioning of equipment, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to specifications.
  • Participate in Failure Review and Corrective Action implementation.
  • Participate in the formulation of asset management plans, preparation of associated budgets and monitoring of asset performance.
  • Supervise project initiatives and modification tasks, including detailed planning, execution and monitoring to ensure compliance to specifications and objectives.
  • Undertake and manage tasks and projects assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
  • Possess a Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University/Polytechnic with minimum 5 years experience
  • Preferably at least 5 years of practical experience in power distribution and electrical services, preferably in a rail transportation environment.
