Assistant Manager, Events Operations and Services, F&B – Temporary Full-Time (18-month contract)
Location: Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto)
Schedule: 35 hours per week; hours vary with event business needs, including evenings, weekends, early mornings, late nights and overnight shifts.
Salary: $61,370 – $76,676 per year.
What is this position responsible for?
- Strategy: Create, develop and implement the Food & Beverage Events Logistics and Operations strategy for the Events Front of the House to support all confirmed events (internal and external).
- Assist with development and updates of F&B Event Operation standard operating procedures to ensure efficient, quality, safe event operations for all staff, volunteers, clients and guests.
- Work with external Front of the House partners to optimize talent, deliver the highest Food and Beverage service reflecting AGO standards and protocols through training and strategic planning.
- Assist in Event Beverage Menu engineering to create efficiencies, drive sales, and keep AGO beverage offerings competitive and current.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with internal partners and departments.
- Develop training plans for new employees in collaboration with the Manager, Event Operations and Services, Event Set Up Co-ordinator and Senior Maintenance Worker Overnight.
- Maintain awareness of hospitality industry trends to keep AGO services competitive and current.
Management and Administration
- Under the direction of the Manager, lead Front of the House and assist in all aspects of F&B event functions in conjunction with Special Events Order.
- Enforce Health & Safety regulations, AGO policies, standard operating procedures, and licensing rules; ensure staff compliance.
- Manage subordinate staff in collaboration with the Manager, Event Operations and Services.
- Assist with beverage management for the F&B department.
- Assist in creating and implementing sustainability initiatives aligned with the F&B department’s carbon footprint reduction goals.
- Perform regular checks of event inventory (equipment, tables, chairs, staging, bars, etc.) and monitor inventory with the Event Set-Up Co-ordinator & Senior Maintenance Worker to minimize losses.
What are we looking for?
- Several years of related experience in innovative and high-level event management operations within a quality facility (e.g., event venue, hotel, event planner, or catering operation).
- Experience coordinating and floor managing concurrent events.
- Strong public relations, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing union and non-union staff.
- Knowledge of hospitality practices, procedures and F&B products/services; ability to stay current with protocols and standards.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, logistics, scheduling and training implementation skills.
- Knowledge of logistics for running events in sensitive spaces (e.g., art gallery).
- Experience with computerized event systems; computer literacy (MS Word, Excel; familiarity with PowerPoint).
- Ability to multi-task under pressure and solve problems efficiently.
- Smart Serve certification; Emergency First Aid and Food Handler certifications are an asset.
