Job summary

Idylwylde Golf & Country Club in Sudbury, Ontario, is seeking an Assistant Ice Technician for the 2026–2027 curling season to support the Head Ice Technician and Winter Operations Manager in delivering an excellent ice surface for leagues, bonspiels, youth programs and events. This seasonal role runs September to April, with installation starting September 2026 and renewal each year.

Responsibilities

  • Ice installation under the Head Ice Technician guidance.
  • Manage day-to-day ice operations for high quality, safe play.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Weekly ice maintenance: scraping, pebbling, nipping, floods and melts.
  • Clean surrounding areas and assist with mid-season maintenance.
  • Assist with removal of ice and equipment storage at season end.

Position Description:

The Idylwylde Golf and Country Club is seeking an Assistant Ice Technician for the 2026–2027 curling season. Our club operates a five-sheet curling facility in Sudbury, Ontario, hosting multiple weekly leagues, regional bonspiels, youth programs, rentals, and community events throughout the season. The Assistant Ice Technician will work closely with the Head Ice Technician as well as the Winter Operations Manager to ensure that we offer an exceptional and consistent ice surface. They will be responsible for supporting the Head Ice Technician in the installation and maintenance of the ice surface.

This position offers seasonal employment (September to April)and is renewable annually. The position will begin with ice installation in September 2026, with the season running through April 2027. Will be expected to work some evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ice installation: Following the instruction of the Head Ice technician and assisting in whatever he may need to complete installation.
  • Day-to-day ice operations ensuring high quality and safe playing conditions.
  • Adhering to all policies and procedures as well as any federal, provincial and municipal legislation and TSSA regulations relating to the safe operation of the ice plant and shed.
  • Implement weekly ice maintenance including daily scraping, pebbling and nipping before regular league play and as required for bonspiels and other events, regular levelling floods/controlled melts as required (minimum twice a season) as directed.
  • Cleaning and vacuuming the areas surrounding the ice surface;
  • Assist with mid-season major ice maintenance during Christmas holiday break.
  • Minor facilities maintenance and repair as needed both on and off the ice; and.
  • Assist with removal of ice, proper storage of rocks, rings, logos and equipment, facility clean up at the end of the season.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as necessary.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented & comfortable with a seasonal schedule.
  • Physical ability and experience to perform ice making and maintenance activities.
  • Able to work independently & perform physical tasks.
  • Experience installing ice on a cement floor.
  • Interest or participation incurlingis a strong asset.
  • Be able to provide a Clean Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Ice technician certification is an asset.
Compensation:
  • Salary: $18.00/hour.
  • Estimate: 15-20 hours a week.
