Job summary

Calgary Remand Centre is seeking an Assistant Head Nurse to provide clinical leadership within Correctional Health Services. The role focuses on safe, ethical care, staff supervision, and coordination of daily operations for a high-acuity incarcerated population.

Reporting to Health Services Manager, the AHN will mentor staff, ensure trauma-informed care, and collaborate with psychiatry, forensics, dentistry, and community partners to sustain continuous care and quality improvements.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Responsibilities

• Lead staff assignments, patient flow and shift coordination.
• Provide frontline nursing care as needed and mentor team.
• Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
