Assistant Engineer / Scientist / Technical Officer – Engineering

Fulltime – Two (2) Positions Available

Job Summary :

The NWMO is seeking Engineers and Engineers-in-Training with experience in Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Piping Design, Fire Protection Engineering, Nuclear Systems Engineering, or Nuclear Operations to join our team of professionals.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Programs, the successful candidate will provide technical guidance and support in their designated discipline to aid in the implementation of a deep geological repository for Canada’s used nuclear fuel and other projects.

The role involves defining, evaluating, and monitoring projects, contracts, and work plans, interfacing with a multidisciplinary team across industrial, nuclear, and mining sectors, as well as safety assessment, geoscience, environmental, and regulatory affairs.

This position is part of a progression-in-place program, with opportunities to advance to senior roles upon meeting experience and qualification requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical advice, analysis, and guidance within your discipline.
  • Assist in defining, evaluating, and monitoring projects, contracts, and work plans.
  • Participate in technical meetings with cross-functional teams.
  • Support other aspects of the engineering program beyond your discipline.
  • Represent NWMO in technical groups, public forums, and with external organizations as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and review of technical reports, papers, presentations, and design documents.
  • Stay updated on developments in your technical field through publications, conferences, and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • 4-year university degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Over 2 years of experience in Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Piping Design, Fire Protection Engineering, Nuclear Systems Engineering, or Nuclear Operations.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge effectively and solve problems analytically.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Willingness to support public engagement activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration and interaction with contractors.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Initiative, problem-solving skills, and analytical thinking.
