Job summary

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking a technical advisor to support engineering programs. The role involves providing technical input, monitoring projects, and engaging with the public. Ideal candidates will have a degree in engineering and a minimum of two years' experience in relevant disciplines, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Requires over 2 years’ experience in Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Piping design, Fire Protection Engineering, or Nuclear Systems Engineering.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Job description

This position is included in aProgression-in Placeposition. The successful applicant will be progressed to senior level roles when they have met the required experience and qualifying accomplishments.

Under the direction of the supervisor or designated staff :

  • Provide technical advice, analysis and input in designated technical discipline. Provide advice, guidance and solutions across the organization to support the technical program.
  • Assist with defining, evaluating and monitoring of projects, contracts and workplans.
  • Participate in technical meetings with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide generalist services to other aspects of the engineering program outside assigned discipline.
  • Attend and or appear before technical groups, the public, and other organization as requested to assist supervisor or others.
  • Assist in the development and review of technical and non-technical reports, papers and presentations, and other Design Input and Design Output documents supporting conceptual, preliminary and detailed design development.
  • Keep abreast of developments in designated technical disciplines through technical publications, conferences and presentations.
  • Participate in NWMO public engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Requires a 4-year university degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Requires over 2 years’ experience in at least one of the following areas : Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Piping design, Fire Protection Engineering, or Nuclear Systems Engineering or Nuclear Operations.
  • Must be able to effectively apply theoretical and practical technical knowledge and use sound analytical thinking to solve problems in the appropriate subject areas.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Must be willing to support NWMO public engagement program, which includes interacting with the public within their technical area.
  • Strong interpersonal skills : demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and interact with external contractors.
  • Experience in communicating effectively in both oral and written form including excellent professional writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications and procedures; governmental acts, laws and regulations; and industry codes, standards and best practices.
  • Initiative, problem recognition, synthesis and problem-solving abilities.
