Assistant Electrical Engineer- Substation (Calgary)

Description

The Assistant Electrical Engineer will assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across various sectors including power, process, corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The role involves working throughout the design and construction phases, adapting electrical plans based on budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist in electrical design from conceptual phase through to completion.
  • Review and modify production drawings for diverse projects such as power plants, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, and government facilities.
  • Design electrical components tailored to project requirements under the guidance of project managers.
  • Apply fundamental electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures relevant to the industry.
  • Conduct research and gather project-related data as required.
  • Update and correct drawings using CAD software, ensuring accuracy.
  • Participate in client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program; or a related Engineering Technology degree with successful FE exam completion.
  • Prior internship or consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work analytically and methodically, demonstrating critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electrical analysis software (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership qualities demonstrated; EIT certification preferred.

This position is open for a minimum of 72 hours and will remain until filled. It is a full-time role based in Calgary, with travel expected up to 25%.
