Club Kodiak is an overnight summer program for adults aged 19+ with a diagnosis of a Learning Disability, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or Mild Intellectual Disabilities. We provide programming to teach and enhance our participants’ social skills and independent living skills. Club Kodiak is located on the shore of Jack’s Lake in Burk’s Falls, Ontario. Club Kodiak was established to meet the needs of campers from Camp Kodiak who had become too old for the program but still benefit from a supported summer program.

The current Director of Club Kodiak will be resigning in September 2025. We are looking for an excellent candidate to train with her beginning in May, working at Club Kodiak this summer, and then transitioning into the role of Director in September. The successful candidate will begin as the Assistant Director of Club Kodiak this summer (May to end-of-August) so that they can learn all of the necessary skills and information to take on the leadership role of Director after the summer.

Summary

During the off-season (September to June), the Director of Club Kodiak works in conjunction with the Directors of Camp Kodiak and other year-round camp staff to oversee the smooth and efficient running of the day-to-day functions and responsibilities of Club Kodiak in Mississauga, Ontario. Duties may extend to representing Club Kodiak at promotional events, job fairs and professional conferences in Canada and the US. Responsibilities will, at times, require the applicant to work both evenings and weekends. Time spent working during evenings and / or weekends during the year will be compensated with time in lieu.

During the summer (mid-June until Labour Day weekend), the Director of Club Kodiak works in conjunction with the Assistant Director (hired seasonally) at the summer location in Burk’s Falls, Ontario. Summer work hours will require the applicant to live at Club Kodiak, and will be significantly longer than standard work hours. At the conclusion of the summer season, there will be one week of paid vacation time.

During the summer, the applicant will be expected to work with our Club “guests” in various capacities, which may include behaviour management, supervision and facilitating group activities.

At all times, the applicant will be expected to adhere to and exemplify to other staff and guests the policies, practices and procedures of Club Kodiak, and to act as a positive role model.

Anticipated Start Date : May 1, 2025

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Work with the Camp Directors and other year-round camp staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of Club Kodiak by completing administrative duties related specifically to Club Kodiak.
  • Develop proficiency to manage data through CampBrain.
  • Collate, input and record all forms and data submitted by parents / caregivers and ensure the Club Kodiak data management system is updated accurately at all times, including overseeing and managing all payments for guests, including those using third-party funding sources.
  • Communicate effectively with parents / caregivers to ensure inquiries and questions are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with prospective guests (and their families), and provide follow-up information to the applicant in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with parents to ensure that they have all of the necessary information as it relates to applications, registrations, documents to submit, and preparing their participant for Club Kodiak.
  • Assist with the safe arrival and departure of all guests, including coordinating with airlines, bus agencies and parents to ensure accurate record keeping and information on all guests.
  • When requested, attend promotional or recruitment events, conferences or job fairs to promote Club Kodiak or recruit new staff members.
  • Plan and facilitate staff training at the beginning of the summer season.
  • Source and purchase supplies and equipment for the facility and programs.
  • Review, update and improve programming for the summer.
  • Plan at least one social gathering for guests during the “off season.”
  • Manage the daily scheduling of guests and staff members.
  • Maintain confidentiality re : guests / staff information.
  • Ensure proper completion and timely submission of all reports as related to guests, outside funding agencies and other agencies with whom Club Kodiak works.
  • Adhere to and support all policies, procedures and guidelines as detailed in the Policies and Procedures for Club Kodiak.
  • Updating and managing the Club Kodiak website and social media accounts.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Directors at Camp Kodiak.

Minimum requirements :

  • Experience working with adults and / or youth with exceptionalities is required.
  • Experience supporting individuals with unique mental health needs.
  • Previous administrative experience is preferable but not required.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Previous camp experience would be an asset but is not required.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Burk’s Falls for the summer season.
  • Computer skills : working knowledge of Google Docs, Google Sheets and Microsoft Word. Experience using Photoshop, iMovie and data entry software are an asset, as are knowledge and understanding of basic marketing concepts and social media applications.
  • Understanding of Passport Funding (through Developmental Services Ontario), and other relevant community resources.
  • Degree or post-graduate diploma in a related field is preferred.
  • A full Ontario driver’s license, and a driving record would allow them to be covered by company insurance.
  • Willing to submit a current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening included.
  • Legally allowed to work in Canada.

    Compensation :

    Salary + benefits package (benefits to begin after 3 months of employment)
