The Centre for Applied Epidemiology, Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is seeking an Assistant Director of Centre Operations. The Centre’s mandate is to provide epidemiology expertise through the development and delivery of educational opportunities, involvement in diverse research opportunities, and provision of consultation services to support science-based improvements for public and animal health. The Assistant Director of Centre Operations will be responsible for administering all aspects of the Centre’s three core activities, with particular emphasis on providing epidemiological/biostatistical support within the WCVM. The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. Approximately 88 students from the four western provinces and the northern jurisdictions are admitted each year to the DVM program. The College also includes 150 graduate students, interns and residents. For further information, please visit www.usask.ca/wcvm. Primary Purpose: The Assistant Director of Centre Operations will be responsible for carrying out all aspects of the 3 core activities of the Centre: training, research support and consultation service provision. The individual will report directly to the Centre Director and will ensure that the vision and goals of the Centre are recognized and sustained. This individual will be allowed to, in conjunction with the Executive Director, develop and implement new initiatives that support and further the mandate of the Centre. Nature of Work: The individual will report to the Director of Centre for Applied Epidemiology, Dr. Tasha Epp. The candidate can expect to work an in-person standard work week within regular University hours. The individual’s duties will include organizing, supervising, and leading activities within specific core areas identified. Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Duties will include: Education: This position has a minimum requirement of DVM or substantial experience with animal health research, and a graduate degree with Epidemiology and/or Statistical focus (PhD is preferable). Licenses: None required for this job. Experience: Candidate must be proficient in biostatistics having a solid foundation in simple statistics such as ANOVAs, regression models, as well as more advanced statistics such as multi-level modeling. Direct experience with biostatistical consultation is preferred. Skills: Strong foundation in epidemiological and biostatistical principles, techniques and software. Ability to utilize and assimilate available animal research or clinical information to make decisions regarding best epidemiological or statistical approaches. Additional desired skills include demonstrated initiative, integrity, collegiality and professionalism along with effective oral and written communication skills, effective time management, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
