Job Description

Candidates are invited to apply for the above Full-Time position to work at Extendicare Brampton, a 150-bed Long-Term Care home located in Brampton, Ontario.

Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC), the ADOC is accountable for assisting with the management of all aspects of nursing care within the home to ensure quality resident care through effective, efficient delivery of established standards within legislative and budgetary requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the DOC in implementing and evaluating nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, and procedural updates.
  • Lead the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (e.g., falls, restraint/PASD use, wound management, Infection Control, Quality Improvement) as assigned by the DOC.
  • Manage utilization of nursing supplies effectively.
  • Responsible for the High Intensity Needs program.
  • Maintain a system of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at the resident and unit program level.
  • Support the RAI-MDS program.
  • Maintain an active presence in Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff and overseeing quality resident care.
  • Initiate investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develop and monitor modified work programs for nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Care on special projects, investigations, performance reviews, and other duties as assigned.
  • Identify areas for staff development and work with the DOC to enhance the nursing department’s effectiveness.
  • Advocate for ethical and effective practices across the organization.
  • Assist the DOC with input to Performance Appraisals.
  • Focus on Resident-Centered Care as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies.
  • Participate actively in the palliative care program, including goals of care and advanced care planning.
  • Take responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the DOC.

Successful candidates will be required to work in the afternoon/evening and on the unit in the absence of an RN.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse registered with College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN an asset.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in long-term care; management experience is an asset.
  • Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education, and quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills; excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and resident care and assessment programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and healthcare practices; committed to providing quality care.
