Reporting to the Deputy Minister, Community Services, the Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic Development provides executive leadership and strategic direction for comprehensive strategies, programs, and initiatives to maximize economic growth and the benefits of trade, investment, and development across Nunavut, nationally, and internationally. The incumbent operates in a high-profile environment to build productive working relationships across Nunavut, Arctic, and Canadian business sectors, and leads efforts to advocate for Nunavut as a destination of choice for trade, investment, cultural experiences, education, mining, fisheries, and tourism.
The key responsibilities of the Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic Development include but are not limited to:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized university degree in Business, Economic Development or related field, along with eight (8) years’ experience working at a senior management level in a government or private sector organization. Experience must be at a leadership level developing partnerships with stakeholders, clients and customers, along with leading teams and complex multi-stakeholder projects while developing and implementing strategic initiatives. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
