About the Ministry

The Ministry of Advanced Education is responsible for developing a skilled and educated workforce that meets the needs of Saskatchewan's labour market. The Ministry works with the private sector, educational institutions, and community organizations to develop, retain, and attract skilled workers. We also work with educational institutions to recruit and retain international students and assist First Nations and Métis learners.

The Opportunity

The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a visionary leader interested in applying their expertise and leadership to foster a high-quality post-secondary education and training system that responds to the needs of Saskatchewan’s people and economy.

The Assistant Deputy Minister of Corporate and Student Services Division oversees diverse functions with internal and external focus, including student financial support, ministry support and information systems, strategic capital planning, and corporate finance. The ADM will leverage strong relationship-building and management skills to guide the direction of the post-secondary education sector.

Based in Regina, the position will allow you to leverage your leadership skills, passion, and technical expertise with a ministry that holds deep-rooted values of Respect and Integrity, Serving Citizens, Excellence, Innovation, and Acting as One Team.

Assistant Deputy Minister Responsibilities

Reporting to the Deputy Minister, the Assistant Deputy Minister is part of the senior executive team that shares responsibility for the development, planning and implementation of a strategic direction that aligns with the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth and ensures a ministry-wide perspective is incorporated into the delivery of programs and services.

As the Assistant Deputy Minister, you will:

  • Provide strategic options, comprehensive policy advice, briefing papers, recommendations and perspectives to the Deputy Minister on functions, activities and issues;
  • Build and maintain credible, collaborative partnerships and relationships across a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Represent the Ministry and province on various committees and task forces to provide input and perspective on program initiatives;
  • Demonstrate exceptional diplomacy through written and oral communication, including the ability to work with and influence a variety of stakeholders;
  • Mentor and develop staff using strong leadership and team-building skills with a focus on building organizational community; and,
  • Manage fiscal and human resources to ensure the effective use of resources in meeting ministry plan objectives.

Background and Competency Requirements

This opportunity is for experienced senior executives with an exceptional history of achieving results in collaborative environments, ideally within the field of public policy development, program and service delivery, and/or public financial management. In addition, you will have:

  • Leadership strengths that promote inclusion, engagement, accountability and foster a collaborative environment;
  • In-depth knowledge of government legislative and regulatory processes and protocols, in particular as it relates to public policy development and financial management;
  • Proven capability to identify and deliver key strategic insights, counsel and policy to ensure decision-making is made with the best possible advice;
  • Exceptional diplomacy, with well-developed internal and external communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to build commitment through collaboration, consultation and consideration of citizen and stakeholder impacts; and,
  • Well-established consensus-building skills, strong leadership and team-building skills, with an ability to mentor and develop staff to a high level of accountability.
