You will lead a division responsible for setting the direction for the development and implementation of commercial transportation safety and enforcement programs, as well as training and services that contribute to the province's successful safety record.
The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Commercial Transportation Safety and Enforcement is a newly created position that will provide overall executive leadership and direction for long-term strategic planning, business planning, growth and transformation, as well as priority-setting and direction to this expanding division.
What can I expect to do in this role?
About the JobThe ADM, Commercial Transportation Safety and Enforcement reports to the Deputy Minister, Transportation and has the following primary responsibilities:
- Providing executive leadership and direction to the development and implementation of strategic programs and operational policies for commercial transportation vehicles.
- Ensuring commercial transportation safety is in alignment with legislative and regulatory frameworks, government priorities and long-term ministry objectives.
- Leadership and oversight of service functions delivered throughout the province, including those delivered by delegate/licensee organizations.
- Delivery of provincial commercial vehicle services through inspection, enforcement and educational programs.
- Developing effective working relationships with ministries, other levels of government, industry, delegate/licensee organizations, non-government organizations and stakeholders.
- Maintaining awareness of emerging trends to plan for industry's ongoing transformation of best practices in commercial vehicle safety and compliance.
- Providing advice and expertise to the Deputy Minister on a broad range of commercial safety and enforcement issues and opportunities.
- Leading a results-based culture for the division that is grounded in a model of inclusion, collaboration and respect.

- Has an appreciation of enforcement culture and practices as well as an understanding of the technology and data management systems used to monitor program effectiveness and compliance to objectives.
Strategic Policy
You are an experienced policy leader with:
- Experience dealing with highly visible, complex, and politically sensitive issues.
- Proven capacity to coordinate policy issues, with clear accountabilities, to support achievement of the government's agenda.
- The ability to provide sound strategic advice and briefs to the minister and deputy minister about the effectiveness and efficiency of policy and program initiatives.
- An in-depth understanding of the public sector policy development life cycle and government decision-making processes.
Relationship Management and Political Acuity
You are a relationship builder and connector who:
- Builds partnerships with senior executives across government, industry, delegate/licensee organizations, non-government organizations and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates impeccable judgement, diplomacy, and tact as you navigate complex, contentious, and sensitive situations.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to advance shared priorities and manage complex issues.
- Builds and manages relationships based on transparency, accountability, and trust.
