Job summary

Metro in Kingston, Ontario is hiring an Assistant Deli Department Head on a permanent full-time basis. The role requires leadership of deli staff, adherence to the department budget and ensuring readiness of the department for daily operations.

Availability includes day, evening and weekend shifts. The posted hourly wage starts at 18.10, with potential increases per collective agreement and candidate experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the department’s assigned budget.

This position is part of a unionized bargaining unit.The hourly wage for this position is starting at 18.10 which is established in accordance with the collective agreement. Depending on a candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, education and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. Any hourly wage offered for this role, whether it is the starting wage or higher, will be within the wage scale established for this position in accordance with the collective agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adheres to the department’s assigned budget
• Manages and directs activities pertaining to department staff including hiring, coaching, training and disciplining
• Ensures proper ordering, purchasing and inventory control and develops and implements strategic plans to achieve projected gross profits
• Ensures department is ready for business at all times
• Implements and ensures adherence to Customer Service Policy
• Ensures adherence to Company policies and procedures and government regulations concerning health & safety, sanitation, security, etc.
• Provides support with overall store operations including store opening and closing
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Store Director

REQUIREMENTS

• Community college graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Minimum 3 years’ directly related management experience with extensive product knowledge, government regulations, ordering, merchandising, inventory taking and gross profit analysis
• Customer service driven and highly organized
• Proven leadership abilities with strong communication skills
• Capable of standing for a prolonged period of 4-8 hours; of bending, twisting and turning and reaching; and of lifting up to 65 lbs.
• Available to work days, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, as required
