Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a CA firm or industry.
  • Experience with income tax compliance both Canadian and US.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.

Responsibilities

Job Title : Assistant Controller

What you will do :

Based at our Head Office in Montreal, Quebec, the Assistant Controller will assist the Vice-President Corporate Accounting & Compliance and the Controllers with financial and tax compliance, reporting, review, and analysis for all companies in the group in Canada and the US.

Responsibilities :

  • Support the financial accounting cycle;
  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements;
  • Perform review of month-end reporting;
  • Reconcile and manage various general ledger accounts;
  • Complete the Monthly Reporting Pack sent to Head Office;
  • Review and approve account reconciliations;
  • Ensure reporting is in compliance with the appropriate GAAP (IFRS / ASPE) and with corporate accounting policies and standards;
  • Assist in the analysis of results and explain variances;
  • Coordinate year–end audit file preparation for each audited entity and ensure that an appropriate audit file is prepared;
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors on audit issues;
  • Assist the Vice-President Corporate Accounting & Compliance with external audits (any government audits – income tax and commodity taxes, CSST, etc.);
  • Assist in tax compliance matters both Canadian and US;
  • Review months-end intercompany balances and reconcile variances;
  • Participate in special projects;
  • Address punctual requests from management;
  • Approve all journal entries;
  • Bookkeeping of various holding companies.

What we are looking for :

  • Audit experience, preferably through internship at a recognized accounting firm;
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, either in an external CA firm or in industry;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, including both IFRS and ASPE;
  • A good understanding of income tax (Canadian and US) and sales tax principles;
  • Experience with JD Edwards accounting software systems;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), with strong Excel skills required;
  • Bilingual in French and English (English is required as we do Business across Canada and the US).
