Synopsis of the role

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing accounting operations in Canada. They are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data, compliance with IAS, US GAAP, and tax regulations, and safeguarding company assets through established controls. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Effective communication and strong partnerships with business units and global teams are essential to meet goals and enhance knowledge.

What you’ll do:

1. Ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of financial information and systems in local GAAP and US GAAP.
2. Manage financial accounting, statutory reporting, consolidation, management and business metrics reporting, treasury, tax, and general accounting functions.
3. Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards.
4. Post monthly journal entries related to revenue, treasury, and tax.
5. Review revenues, cash collection, and bad debts.
6. Produce monthly and ad hoc revenue, treasury, and tax reports.
7. Review monthly reconciliations of balance sheet and P&L accounts.
8. Perform and analyze revenue contract reviews.
9. Prepare reports on audit outcomes and recommend improvements in accounting practices.
10. Research accounting issues and ensure compliance with accepted principles.
11. Coordinate with internal and external auditors and tax advisors.

What Experience You Need

1. CPA designation
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
3. 7+ years of experience
4. Strong accounting skills, including revenue accounting and contract review
5. Proficiency in Excel
6. Experience with Oracle Financials and Hyperion Financial Management is preferred
