Job summary

STRIVE is working with a well-established manufacturer in the outdoor products industry to hire an Assistant Controller for their Penticton, BC finance team. Ideal candidate is actively pursuing their CPA and eager to develop into a future finance leader.

You will own day-to-day accounting, support month-end close, financial reporting, and process improvements while partnering with leadership to drive operational decisions as the business grows across North America.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Active enrollment in the CPA program (designation not yet required).
• Experience in accounting, public practice, or a progressive accounting role with exposure to full-cycle accounting.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
• A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and desire to grow into increasing levels of responsibility.
• Manufacturing experience is considered an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining accurate general ledger accounts.
• Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Manage day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor payments, invoicing, and expense reporting.
• Prepare and file GST/PST returns, payroll remittances, and assist with year-end tax preparation.
• Perform financial analysis and reporting to support operational and business decisions.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase efficiencies.
• Maintain accounting records within the ERP system while supporting ongoing system and process improvements.
• Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support the organization's continued growth.
• Assist with additional accounting and finance projects as required.
