Job summary

The Brick Group in Edmonton is seeking a detail-oriented buying professional to support assortment development and maintain competitive positioning in the living category. You will leverage data to inform decisions and help drive profitability.

Reporting to the Director, Merchandising, you will execute assortment plans, perform market intelligence, and collaborate with the Category Buyer on transitions, promotions, and inventory management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assortment plans and maintain item data for catalog creation and updates.
  • Support store core plan implementation and maintenance.
  • Provide market intelligence on competitive products and assortments.
  • Collaborate with Category Buyer on transitions and clearance inventory.
  • Implement and review advertising and promotional information across media.
  • Visit stores to verify signage, pricing, display, and stock levels.
  • Perform financial and sales analysis and reporting for the category.
  • Develop and implement chain-wide Product Knowledge training.
  • Learn components of buying for a category.

Job description

Join an exclusive group of multi-faceted buying professionals in the dynamic, fast-paced living category. The selected candidate will have a passion for data-driven decision making and strong analytical skills.

Reporting to the Director, Merchandising, you will assist with assortment development to maintain competitive positioning and latest market trends and will help ensure the overall profitability of the product category.

Responsibilities:
  • Execution of assortment plan including all required data for item code creation on a timely basis as well as internet updates etc.
  • Product Store core plan implementation and maintenance
  • Assist Category Buyer with market intelligence regarding competitive products and assortments
  • Responsibility with Category Buyer for product transitions and management of clearance inventory.
  • Implementation and review of all advertising promotional information in all media
  • Store visits - inspect what is expected regarding signage, display price tags, stack outs, product etc.
  • Financial and sales analysis and reporting for category
  • Development and implementation of chain wide Product Knowledge training information.
  • Learn all components of buying for a category
Knowledge & Skills Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education an asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel as required
Education & Experience Required
  • Must be articulate, assertive; possess solid communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Focused and confident self-starter
  • Must be able to build working relationships with vendors and colleagues
  • Ability to initiate, develop and deliver plans and programs successfully
  • Developed analytical abilities
  • Computer competence in excel spreadsheet and word programs
  • Developed knowledge and competence in retail systems
