Job description

Overview

Peak Cellars is located on a scenic 7-acre property and home to our Goldie Road vineyard. In addition to producing award-winning wines, our half-acre organic vegetable garden and two greenhouses supply fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables for our Garden Bistro. We are currently seeking an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager to join our passionate team of food and wine enthusiasts.

Role Type: Permanent, Full-time (32+ hours per week)Location: Lake Country, BC (Near Kelowna)Reports To: Front of House ManagerStart: Immediately

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational:

Oversee day-to-day operations of Peak Cellars, ensuring a visible presence and supporting the service team.

Assist the FOH Manager with restaurant event coordination.

Monitor staffing levels daily and optimize labor costs.

Understand employee roles to perform duties during staff absences including support staff, retail sales, servers, bartenders, etc.

Contribute to the development, communication, and maintenance of standard operating procedures.

Assist in hiring, training, and managing staff to maximize performance and guest satisfaction.

Develop onboarding and orientation packages for new employees.

Foster a positive and rewarding environment across all teams.

Represent Peak Cellars’ brand and values on behalf of the O’Rourke family.

Support inventory management and ordering to ensure smooth operations.

Financial:

Assist in maintaining Food & Beverage budgets, sales, and labor reports as required.

Communication:

Initiate and coordinate intra-departmental meetings as necessary.

Maintain positive relationships with wine tour operators and Scenic Sip Trail partners.

Collaborate with the marketing team to develop social media strategy and handle online reviews (TripAdvisor, Google, etc.).

Assist in creating advertising and promotional materials.

Set clear expectations with employees and team leaders.

Conduct daily “pre-shift briefings” to update staff on winery services and special events.

Guest Experience:

Ensure exceptional guest satisfaction, handling reviews and complaints professionally.

Create a welcoming and professional environment for guests.

Manage incidents and fill out guest incident reports if required.

Safety:

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards.

Prioritize safety by maintaining clean and well-maintained facilities.

Coordinate maintenance activities with staff and submit injury reports if needed.

Continuous Improvement:

Oversee wine knowledge development for all departmental staff through training sessions.

Stay updated on industry trends and participate in relevant conferences.

Maximize the use of hospitality software such as 7Shifts, Touch Bistro, and Wine Direct.

Keep abreast of organizational menus, wine trends, winemaking practices, and events.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

At least 2 years of winery and restaurant management experience, specifically focused on food, beverage, and event services.

Dedicated to providing exceptional service and showcasing local wine and food offerings.

Demonstrated leadership abilities, with sound judgment and decision-making skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and hospitality software, such as 7Shifts, Touch Bistro, and Wine Direct.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities for both self and team members.

Ability to perform well under pressure and remain calm in urgent situations.

Flexible and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, with occasional overtime.

Professional appearance and demeanor.

Must hold a Serving It Right certification.

WSET certification or willingness to pursue it.

First Aid Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain.
