The Bakery Assistant Team Lead organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the operations of the bakery department. You will supervise, coach, and coordinate the activities of Team Members who produce, portion, and serve various bakery products, ensuring all departmental and store objectives, as communicated by the Market Manager and leadership team, are met or exceeded. You will promote a positive company image by providing legendary customer service and exceptional leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist in leading a high-volume production department from scratch.
- Estimate ingredient and supply needs for approval and place orders accordingly.
- Monitor customer order summaries to guarantee quality and accuracy.
- Maintain records of stock, repairs, sales, and wastage.
- Assist with and conduct regular inventory checks of the department.
- Follow all standardized recipes without deviation.
- Report any recipe errors or concerns immediately to the Team Lead and Market Management.
- Ensure food products and customer service meet Sunterra quality standards.
- Demonstrate growth in product knowledge, including awareness of product changes, promotions, and seasonal trends.
- Resolve customer complaints and ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
- Follow and monitor sanitation checklists and log sheets.
- Train and coach Team Members on job duties and health and safety procedures.
- Set daily and weekly targets for bakery items, focusing on items that are below previous year's numbers, and review these with the bakery team and market manager during weekly meetings.
- Maintain a full, colorful, and abundant showcase with proper product rotation signage.
- Assist with all promotional and holiday roll-outs.
- Cover bakery shifts as required.
Qualifications :
- Post-Secondary education in Baking & Pastry Arts is considered an asset.
- Experience in a commercial bakery is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills.
Working Conditions :
- Standing and/or walking for extended periods.
- Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions.
- Working on uneven surfaces.
- Working around hot surfaces (grills, stoves, ovens).
- Using knives and slicing machines.
- Reaching above and below shoulder height.
- Repetitive hand movements, including power grasping and fine manipulation.
- Repetitive stretching and lifting, up to 40 pounds (over 40 pounds with team lift).
- WHMIS and Food Safety certifications required (training provided online by Sunterra).
