Chief Deputy Attorney General for the USVI

Work is performed under established rules, policies, and procedures, under the direction of the Attorney General. The successful applicant is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in executing duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Representing the Government of the Virgin Islands in appeals before the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
• Drafting regulations, reviewing government contracts and leases for legal sufficiency, researching legal issues, and advising executive departments, boards, and commissions.
• Rendering legal opinions regarding the powers or duties of government departments, boards, or commissions.

Criminal Division:

• Prosecuting criminal cases before the Territorial Courts, interfacing with law enforcement agencies, and handling cases referred from various agencies, including the Virgin Islands Police Department, Inspector General Office, and Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Civil Division:

• Representing the Government of the Virgin Islands in civil proceedings before local and federal courts, defending actions against government officials and agencies, and participating in multi-district litigation.

Paternity and Child Support Division:

• Enforcing child support laws, appearing at administrative hearings, and mediating support and visitation disputes.
