The Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) are seeking a qualified psychiatrist to assume the role of Medical Head, AMANI and Child, Youth and Family Services Division. The Medical Head will provide clinical leadership to the AMANI service and contribute to strategic planning and health system advancement within the Division of Child, Youth and Family Services. The role includes 1 day per week dedicated to leadership and 1 day per week to oversee program evaluation within the AMANI service. The additional 3 days will involve clinical care within Amani and the Child, Youth and Family Service. This is a full-time clinical and leadership position. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Effective start date is September 2025 or shortly thereafter.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the world’s leading research centres in its field. CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a Pan America Health Organization / World Health Organization Collaborating Centre. With a dedicated staff of more than 4,000 physicians, clinicians, researchers, educators and support staff, CAMH offers outstanding clinical care to more than 37,000 patients each year and over 118 inpatient and outpatient clinical programs. The organization conducts ground-breaking research through its 11 research centres and provides expert training to over 13,000 health care professionals and scientists. In addition, CAMH delivers education programs to over 40,000 healthcare professionals each year and advocates on public policy issues at all levels of government.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, must be Board certified or Board Eligible in Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty, and must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate must also hold a subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and must have extensive clinical leadership experience and demonstrated commitment to equity-oriented, community-partnered models of care.

This is a full-time permanent position and remuneration include stipend for leadership responsibilities ranging from $270,000 to $330,000 per year partially based on fee for service earnings in addition to income from the Alternate Funding Plan and other sources of income. This is a full-time position, with the leadership term set for a three-year period, renewable by mutual agreement.

About the Child, Youth and Family Services Division

The Child, Youth and Family Services Division at CAMH delivers specialized, evidence-based mental health care for children, adolescents, and emerging adults aged 6 to 24 years. The division provides assessment and treatment services across a range of conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and complex neurodevelopmental disorders. Services are offered through a stepped-care model that includes outpatient, urgent, and acute care, as well as specialized consultation clinics. The division is deeply committed to equity, access, and continuous improvement, and actively integrates research, teaching, and health system leadership across its programs.

About the AMANI Service

AMANI : Mental Health & Substance Use Services for Black Youth is Canada’s first hospital-community partnership dedicated to improving mental health and substance use care for Black youth. AMANI supports a provincial network of hospital and community-based partners working together to deliver culturally responsive, evidence-based care across Ontario.

AMANI’s flagship initiative is its Mental Health & Substance Use Program (formerly SAPACCY), which addresses systemic disparities in access and outcomes through an Africentric, community-informed model. A hub-and-spoke design integrates hospital-based services at CAMH with a network of nine community partners to ensure timely, accessible, and appropriate care. AMANI also provides targeted supports for youth involved in the justice system through its collaboration with the Toronto Northwest Justice Centre.
