The Department of Experiential Studies in Community and Sport (XCS) in the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) at Cape Breton University (CBU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (depending on current achieved rank) in Community, Sport, and Physical Activity (CSP). This position will commence on September 1, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
CBU recognizes its location on Cape Breton Island as part of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. It offers a comprehensive set of programs and a commitment to community, economic development, and research into environment and culture. CBU is known for its high student satisfaction, faculty-student interaction, and employability.
We welcome candidates whose teaching, research, and service demonstrate commitment to Community, Sport, and Physical Activity. The successful candidate will contribute to the XCS department and teach core interdisciplinary courses, including those for the Sport and Physical Activity Leadership (SPAL) program.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in a related discipline, with experience in community, sport, physical activity, health, wellness, leisure, or recreation. Candidates in the later stages of their Ph.D. may be considered, with completion required before employment.
Applicants should demonstrate potential and commitment to teaching, research, and community engagement, especially with Unama’ki-Cape Breton communities. Teaching may involve various modes, including online and off-campus.
