The Assistant Ash Crane Operator (AACO) is an entry-level position that requires completing in-house progressive training to learn basic operations and maintenance skills in a first-class power plant. The AACO is preferred to possess their Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate or be working towards it.
The candidate will work on a 24/7/365 shift schedule and support all operational, maintenance, and cleaning functions of the plant.
Main Responsibilities:
- Adhere to applicable safety, environmental standards, regulations, and company policies
- Perform plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
- Conduct plant rounds and equipment inspections
- Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, front-end loaders, forklifts, skid steers, aerial work platforms, and telehandlers
- Operate plant equipment as directed by the Shift Engineer
- Assist operations and maintenance crews as needed
- Participate in preventative and corrective maintenance programs
- Conduct inspections, analyze, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and take corrective actions
- Maintain operating logs following regulations
- Inform incoming shift personnel about plant status and issues
- Participate in the plant Lock Out / Tag Out program for safety
- Provide relief for plant operators
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Train, coach, and work effectively with other staff
- Assist at other plant locations in Merritt for short-term assignments
- Engage in professional development activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Class 4 power engineering certification or working towards it is an asset
- Effective communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, and supervisory skills are highly desired
- Experience in an industrial setting, operations, trades, maintenance, or construction
- Material handling and heavy equipment experience, including dozers and loaders
Work Environment:
- Full-time, permanent position with 24/7/365 shifts
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and tolerate dust and airborne particles; respirator use may be required
- Must wear safety equipment and PPE as appropriate
- Physical ability to stoop, bend, climb, reach, carry, use hand tools, and lift heavy objects; work from ladders, scaffolds, and confined spaces
Salary ranges from $34.80 to $35.80 per hour, depending on experience and licensing levels.
