OMNI Television, Canada’s only multilingual and multicultural television station, is seeking a passionate, team-oriented, and innovative Part-time Temporary Assignment Editor with a can-do attitude to support newsgathering for special projects and weekends in our Vancouver, BC location. This is a part-time role that will help support efforts in resource allocation and editorial focus on special projects and daily news gathering.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of daily national news and broader issues impacting the communities we serve. You will be able to work collaboratively, mindful of OMNI’s diverse audiences. Sound editorial judgment and exceptional communication skills are essential to produce impactful content.

What You Will Do...
  1. Work with producers and bureau managers to assign resources.
  2. Coordinate interviews and guide ENG operators on editorial focus.
  3. Organize and book feeds.
  4. Support producers in resource allocation for special series or presentations.
  5. Provide editorial insights for special series or presentations.
  6. Respond quickly and accurately to breaking news.
  7. Coordinate coverage and technical arrangements with other departments or broadcast partners.
  8. Liaise with reporters, editors, cameras, and producers on story updates and content gathering.
  9. Develop and maintain a network of contacts to support newsgathering.
  10. Stay informed on social media trends and utilize them for story chasing.
  11. Respond to and chase news tips.
  12. Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring...
  1. At least 3 years of experience in an editorial role within a newsroom.
  2. Field experience as a writer, reporter, or producer is an asset but not required.
  3. Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Proficiency with newsroom computer software; knowledge of Inception NRCS is an asset.
  5. Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting, or equivalent experience.
  6. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.
  7. A team-oriented attitude.
