As the largest test lab on the west coast of North America, the High Voltage lab is capable of conducting distribution and transmission level high voltage tests on all types of equipment such as transformers, insulators, switchgear, bushings, cables, instrument transformers, transmission line hardware, surge arrestors, SF6 insulated equipment, and transformer rectifier units (TRUs).
The lab’s independent, third-party status, and experienced technical staff of more than 30 years enhance the credibility of manufacturers’ test reports.
Our lab offers a full range of qualification and certification tests, as well as custom testing solutions.
Condition assessment tests may be performed in the field or in the lab to evaluate the equipment condition.
It also has a long history of conducting forensic analysis investigations to identify the cause of failures and providing expert witness services.
Position Highlights Performs a variety of set ups and tests on electrical equipment, components and cables What you'll do 1.
Sets up and carries out electrical tests under the supervision of an engineer or technologist.
Performs laboratory measurements following established procedures and records the results.
Operates computers and test instruments as required for testing.
Performs routine repairs, maintenance and calibration of electrical test equipment, tools and instruments.
Builds or modifies test jigs and support structures to be used for electrical tests.
Specifies and purchases materials and equipment needed for routine operation of electrical test labs.
Maintains test facilities in a safe and organized condition.
Maintains log books and files to document tests performed, operating procedures, equipment calibration, etc.
Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
This includes the performance of duties across disciplines in a job of the same or lower job group.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required: Good working knowledge of how to prepare tests for a variety of electrical components and cables.
Additional Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 30lbs on an occasional to regular basis.
Ability to use hand tools and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods during testing and setup activities.
Two (2) years of related experience working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a variety of electrical equipment, components and cables.
