Job summary

Gastronomous Technologies Inc. in Oakville, Ontario is seeking a detail-oriented Assembly Technician to build and improve robotic food production systems. You will work with engineering and operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, and safety, while documenting processes.

This hands-on role requires reading drawings, assembling subassemblies, and supporting continuous improvement in a fast-paced shop environment; experience with food-grade equipment and basic fabrication is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of hands-on mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience.
• Experience assembling subassemblies and complex mechanical systems using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and work from assembly drawings, BOMs, and engineering tolerances.
• Experience with basic fabrication support such as grinding, deburring, or light welding.
• Experience in a food-grade or automated equipment environment with awareness of hygienic design.

• Support quality assurance activities including inspections, non-conformance tracking, and corrective actions.

• Support metal fabrication work including welding, bending, laser cutting, and mechanical assembly.
• Assist with production planning and materials flow coordination.

We're seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Assembly Technician to help build and continuously improve the processes behind our robotic food production systems. Working closely with engineering and operations, you'll focus on production efficiency, quality assurance, safety compliance, and technical documentation.

Primary Responsibilities

• Follow work instructions to build and assemble complex robotic systems.
• Support engineers and production managers in refining processes to improve efficiency and throughput.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 2–4 years of hands-on mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience (internships, co-op terms, apprenticeships, school projects, or personal/shop work all count)
• Experience assembling subassemblies and complex mechanical systems using hand and power tools, fasteners, and fitting techniques
• Ability to read and work from assembly drawings, BOMs, and engineering tolerances
• Experience with basic fabrication support such as grinding, deburring, or light welding
• Experience in a food-grade or automated equipment environment, with awareness of hygienic design and contamination control
• Comfortable working independently in a small-team, fast-moving shop environment

Nice to Have

• Experience assembling robotic, automated, or electromechanical equipment (actuators, sensors, conveyors, enclosures)
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication or food-grade assemblies
• Proficiency in welding (MIG and/or TIG), press brake operation, or laser cutting
• Familiarity with manual mills, lathes, or CNC equipment
• Knowledge of NSF/food equipment cleanliness and finish standards
• Experience with functional testing, process validation, cycle time, or yield tracking
• Familiarity with sensors, limit switches, safety interlocks, and fault detection
• Experience with time and motion studies, Lean, 5S, or similar continuous improvement methodologies

Safety & Workplace Requirements

• Knowledge of industrial and robotic safety practices, including lockout/tagout and machine guarding.
• Experience supporting a Joint Health & Safety Committee, audits, and incident investigations.
• Ability to work safely around automated machinery and powered equipment.
