Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is seeking a hands-on assembler to join the Ottawa team. The role is a 40‑hour workweek onsite for a 6‑month temporary term, with involvement in assembly of electronic and electromechanical equipment.

The ideal candidate has a Grade 12 education and some exposure to assembly or similar environments, can follow detailed drawings, and performs tasks with accuracy and teamwork.

Job Description

Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands, building things, and following detailed instructions to get the job done right? We’re looking for a hands-on Assemblers to join our Ottawa team. This role is 40 hours a week onsite with 6 months temporary term to start.

This is a great opportunity for someone with some experience in assembly, manufacturing, production, electronics, electromechanical equipment, mechanical assembly, cable/harness assembly, or other light-industrial environments.

• - Assemble, rework and operate electronic and electromechanical equipment from detailed procedures, assembly drawings and manufacturing instructions.
• - Follow detailed assembly documentation (Drawings & Parts Lists) and instructions (Assembly Instructions & Process Routing Sheets to perform assigned assembly tasks.
• - Inspect your work and follow established workmanship and quality standards.
• - Record quality information and production results in company systems.
• - Accountable for completion of work orders on time.
• - Completes assigned tasks within expected productivity outputs.
• - Communicate, prioritize & multitasks to achieve team goals.

Qualifications

• - Has a Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• - Has some exposure to assembly, manufacturing, production, electronics, mechanical work, or a similar hands‑on environment. (Mechanical, CCA or Harnesses) Minimum of 3 months of related experience is enough to get started.
• - Can follow detailed drawings, parts lists, and written instructions.
• - Has basic computer skills for entering and retrieving information.
• - Is comfortable doing repetitive, detail-oriented hands‑on work.
• - Takes pride in producing quality work.
• - Can identify and report issues when they arise.
• - Works well as part of a team.
• - Can prioritize tasks and manage changing priorities.
• - Is dependable and takes ownership of assigned work.
• - Communicates effectively (verbal/written) with team members and support groups.

Working Environment

• - Minimal physical exertion. Work performed primarily in a sitting/forward leaning position, with occasional movement around a workplace.
• - Moderate lifting of low weight items, with limited requirement to lift items of considerable weight. Prolonged periods of work requiring focus and concentration.
• - May be required to work through a microscope for up to extended periods of time. Dexterity and visual acuity required for fine/precise electronic assembly.
• - Some isolation while in production; limited exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust and noise; some repetition; moderate interruptions and occasional high volumes/multiple and tight deadlines.

Security

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Additional Information

The expected hourly rate for this position is $19.92-$23.64. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. This role is a 40 hour work week and expected to begin on a day‑shift schedule. As operational requirements evolve, there may be a future need for night‑shift and/or weekend coverage. Employees working night shifts receive an hourly shift premium. We are committed to communicating schedule changes as early as possible and supporting employees through any transition.
