Position Summary

This position operates, maintains, and repairs the asphalt plant and equipment. Reports to the Crew Lead Asphalt Plant.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Operate a fully computerized batch plant under supervision, including control of bins, silos, and equipment for storing and dispensing asphalt mixes, ensuring safety and quality standards.
  2. Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repairs of plant and stationary equipment, working at heights and lifting up to 50 kg.
  3. Perform routine preventive maintenance and component replacements.
  4. Operate and maintain equipment such as front end loaders, skid steers, forklifts, and welding tools.
  5. Order and receive shipments of liquid asphalt.
  6. Follow operating procedures and adjust formulas as needed.
  7. Supervise casual helpers and provide training to new staff.
  8. Work independently, including weekends and after hours.
  9. Keep detailed records of work activities.
  10. Ensure product quality and safety standards are maintained.
  11. Perform other related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

  1. Grade 12 education, self-study of asphalt plant manual, and minimum three years of experience in asphalt plant operation and maintenance, including two years operating front end loaders and one year operating skid steers.
  2. Possession of Asphalt Plant Operator Level 1 Certificate with required test scores.
  3. Knowledge of asphalt production processes and City specifications.
  4. Ability to work in confined, dusty, hot, or cold environments.
  5. Ability to read schematics, graphs, and perform basic math.
  6. Proficiency in operating asphalt plant equipment and safety procedures.
  7. Mechanical aptitude for repairs and maintenance.
  8. Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks.
  9. Ability to operate computers and related software.
  10. Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work in challenging environments.
  11. Valid driver’s license and relevant certificates.

  1. Shift work and irregular hours required.
  2. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  3. Work in confined spaces and at heights.
  4. Criminal record check and proof of education required.
