Job description

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for supervising daily activities in an asphalt production plant. The position requires experience and knowledge in asphalt production, aggregates, plant components, and experience operating loaders and skid steers. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment, maintaining professionalism and courtesy with truck drivers and customers.

How You’ll Add Value

  1. Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  2. Operate Astec drum mix asphalt plants or similar equipment
  3. Perform comprehensive plant maintenance and repairs
  4. Maintain and service hot oil heaters
  5. Calibrate cold feed bins, belt scales, and oil metering pumps
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues
  7. Unload hot asphalt products safely and efficiently
  8. Share responsibilities including truck scaling, unloading asphalt cement (AC) oil, shoveling, and general facility maintenance
  9. Operate additional heavy equipment to support project needs
  10. Work safely and effectively at heights
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  1. 1+ years of experience working at an asphalt, concrete, or batch plant
  2. Welding and fabrication experience is highly preferred
  3. Experience operating a skid steer and rubber tire loader is preferred
  4. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  5. Experience operating load-out scales is an asset
  6. Basic electrical knowledge is an asset
  7. Knowledge of basic computer skills is an asset
  8. Ability to safely lift and carry 40 lbs regularly

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
