ABOUT THE ROLE

Lafarge Canada is currently hiring Asphalt Paving Crew to join our road construction team in Saskatoon, SK. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with asphalt paving operations, including raking, shoveling, rolling, and operating small equipment. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork while contributing to high-performance asphalt paving operations.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

1. Perform duties such as raking, luting, and shoveling asphalt material to ensure a smooth, level surface.
2. Operate small equipment such as plate compactors, power brooms, saws, and skid steers as needed.
3. Assist in the placement and rolling of asphalt according to specifications, using hand tools and machinery.
4. Ensure joints, edges, and surfaces are finished properly for compaction and smoothness.
5. Set up and take down work zones, including traffic control signage and devices.
6. Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.
7. Work collaboratively with the paving crew to maintain continuous paving operations and minimize downtime.
8. Follow safe work practices, procedures, and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
9. Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in asphalt paving or road construction

Required Training/Certifications: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required; Class 1 or 3 with Air Brakes Endorsement preferred; safety certifications (CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid) are assets

Preferred Technical Skills: Ability to use paving tools and equipment effectively; knowledge of paving techniques, asphalt materials, and compaction requirements

Travel Requirements: Knowledge of the City of Saskatoon and surrounding area

Additional Requirements:

1. Able to work in fast-paced environment
2. Must be physically fit for repetitive tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
3. Perform general other labour duties as required.
4. Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
