Job summary

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EAFWR) is seeking a Direct Support Person who is fluent in American Sign Language to support a 16-year-old girl in Kitchener. The role emphasizes patience, independence, and building trusting relationships with the family and the person served.

The schedule is flexible with evening and weekend hours; a vehicle is helpful but not required. The organization covers mileage and offers a supportive, inclusive environment committed to belonging.

Qualifications

• ASL fluency required.
• Secondary school diploma or some secondary school with related experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Reliable, punctual and committed.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Minimum age 18.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the person and family, planning and implementing activities to meet goals.
• Establish and maintain a respectful relationship with the person being supported.
• Communicate openly with the person, family and Support Coordinator.
• Adhere to Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe environment.
• Assist with program documentation as requested.
