The Arts Club Theatre Company is Canada’s largest year-round not-for-profit theatre company. The Arts Club offers the best in professional theatre and has staged over 650 productions. The Arts Club Choir is a new program starting in the 2025-26 season, running from October 2025 to March 2026. It will be a community choir of 20+ people of all ages, focusing on Musical Theatre repertoire. The choir will meet one evening a week for two hours in one of our rehearsal spaces.
The Arts Club Choir Director will oversee the program, serving as the primary conductor, supervising the accompanist, liaising with Arts Club administration, and representing the program publicly. The choir will be open to all experience levels, starting from age 8, with rehearsals on Thursday evenings for two hours, across two 10-week terms: October 16 - December 18, 2025, and January 22 - March 26, 2026.
The Arts Club Choir Director will be expected to attend to the following responsibilities.
Administrative
• Attend staff meetings.
• Coordinate faculty scheduling and communication with the Director of Education and Education & Community Engagement Coordinator.
• Liaise with key Arts Club staff, including the Education & Community Engagement Coordinator, Directors of Education and Development.
• Collaborate with the Director of Education, Education & Community Engagement Coordinator, and Accessibility Coordinator to support participants’ access needs.
• Supervise and support the accompanist.
• Prepare and submit final reports.
• Promote the program in collaboration with the Education department.
Educational
• Teach onsite classes for both terms.
• Work with the accompanist to select appropriate repertoire for various skill levels.
• Maintain a fun and engaging environment.
Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to listen and respond to diverse participant needs.
• Ability to lead a group and foster a positive, inclusive space.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Flexibility to adapt curriculum to participant needs; commitment to inclusion, access, and serving equity-deserving groups.
• Strong voice instruction skills and extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire.
Qualifications:
• Past experience as a choir director/conductor.
• BA or BFA in music or theatre, or equivalent experience.
• Connection to and experience within the Canadian or international theatre community.
• Understanding of musical theatre genres and practices, with the ability to instruct across these styles.
