Job description

We are a global team of creators, storytellers, technologists, experience originators, innovators and so much more. We believe amazing games and experiences start with teams as diverse as the players and communities we serve. At Electronic Arts, the only limit is your imagination.

Our motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star Wars: Squadrons to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space.

Currently, we're working on two exciting projects, an original Iron Man action-adventure game and what's coming next for Battlefield. We believe in sharing our passion with our community and each other, fostering an inclusive culture, and nurturing a growth mindset. Although our approach may seem simple, it leads us to create the best work of our careers, bringing unique and immersive experiences to our players.

Motive is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist with a passion for world building to join our team of content creators. You will play an important part in creating the look and feel of our games. You will join a team of passionate, creative professionals who love to push their craft to new heights. You will report to the Lead Lighter and work with Art Directors, Designers and Level Artists to establish the right moods and image quality.

Responsibilities:
  • Create lighting for our environments, both interiors and exteriors that align with established art direction or reference.
  • Set up image effects processes such as bloom, ambient occlusion, fog, volumetrics, lens effects and color grading.
  • Ensure lighting is compliant with all other gameplay systems.
  • Set up the technical requirements for the lighting in your environments and manage related performance.
  • Work with Lead and Art Directors to establish visual targets.
  • Seek feedback on your own work and provide feedback to the other lighters.
Qualifications:
  • You are a humble expert at your craft who leaves their ego at the door; who simply wants to be part of a cohesive team, members of which are always there to support each other and who strive to always deliver the best visual result they can!
  • 5+ years of experience as a Lighting Artist in the video games industry on AAA titles or relevant film experience.
  • You have an artistic eye and ability to interpret reference and concept art.
  • You have a good understanding of lighting fundamentals, color theory, materials, cinematography and photography and PBR as it relates to game development.
  • You know how to guide the player’s eye and evoke different emotions through the use of lighting and color.
  • Solid experience lighting for legibility in games, both for storytelling as well as gameplay.
  • Experience with node-based logic such as UE blueprints, as well as setting up scripted lighting events, in-game triggers, etc.
  • Comfortable and excited about learning new tech and tools, such as EA’s Frostbite Editor.
  • You understand the technical aspects of a real-time rendering engine, and experience working within performance constraints.
  • Very strong organizational skills and ability to time manage.
  • Experience mentoring others, and a desire to help everyone on the team, when opportunities arise…We are looking for a real team player!
  • A strong understanding of what is visually most important in any given situation, as well as the importance of subtlety in lighting.
